Good morning and happy hump day! Aside from just being outside today, we’ve got a few ideas for things you can do around town.

Have some kiddos ages 6 and up? Smart Toys and Books is hosting a workshop to build a working volcano today at 11 a.m. There are still spots open for the event, and registration is $6. Register here.

At noon, UT journalism professor Dr. Ed Caudill will lead a discussion on Brooke Gladstone’s new graphic novel The Influencing Machine at the East Tennessee History Center as part of the library’s Books Sandwiched In monthly meeting. It’s absolutely free to attend. More info here.

This evening at 7, the Orion Astronomy Club will meet at the Grove Theater in Oak Ridge. Tonight Mark Finchum will talk about Cherokee astronomy legends. More info on how to get there is here.

Dirty blues rockers the Blackfoot Gypsies will perform at Scruffy City Hall tonight at 10. 21+ only.

Also at 10, Nashville garage rock outfit Pujol will perform at the Pilot Light, along with Faux Ferocious and Buddy System. It’s $6 to get in. 18+ only.
