The Weekend Plan-It: Johnny Beehner, Carolina Story, and Great Peacock

Good morning! It’s the weekend! Here’s what’s going on!

At noon, head over to the visitor center to check out Grandpa’s Cough Medicine perform for WDVX’s Blue Plate Special, along with Trae Pierce and the Stone Band. It’s free to attend!

Comic Johnny Beehner (a Second City alum, like Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey) will perform his stand-up routine at Side Splitter’s Comedy Club at 7:45 (and 10:15). Tickets are $12. Buy them here.

The Tennessee Theatre will screen the classic film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8. Buy them here.

Catch folk outfit Carolina Story at Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria at 10 p.m. 21+ only.

Or, if you prefer 80s new wave, Knoxville only Talking Heads tribute band Same As It Ever Was will play at Scruffy City Hall, also at 10 p.m. 21+ only.

Wake up early and head over to Ijams Nature Center for a guided hike through some of the Urban Wilderness. The hike starts at 8 a.m. It’ll cover 3-4 miles and last about 2 hours. It’s free for Ijams members to participate, and $5 for non-members. More info here.

The Spirit of Nations Powwow kicks off at Chilhowee Park at 10 a.m. There will be traditional Native American dancing, drumming and other music, storytelling, craft vendors, contests, and fry bread. Admission is $1-$5. More info here.

If you’re interested in drawing detailed, scientific pictures of plants, the UT Gardens is holding a drawing class at 1 p.m. It’s $35 for garden members and $45 for non-members to participate. More info here.

Knoxville’s own post-hardcore power-pop outfit On My Honor will perform at the Concourse at 6 p.m. Tickets are $7-$10. Buy them here.

Folkies Great Peacock will perform at Barley’s at 10 p.m. 21+ only.

At 7:30 a.m., Soles of the City Running Club will meet at Volunteer Landing for a 4-mile run. More info here.

UT Gardens will have a class at 2 p.m. about plant families, which will help students identify plants, figure out how to treat diseases, and plan garden designs. It’s free for members to attend, and $5 for non-members. More info here.

Wrap up the night at the Preservation Pub, where the Upstairs Underground Stand-Up Comedy Show starts at 8 p.m. It’s free to attend! 21+ only.
